Release day for Dr. John's new album, Locked Down, is less than two weeks away, April 3. The album, produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, is an entirely new approach for the iconic Dr. John, featuring as it does his collaboration with Auerbach and a band of young musicians Auerbach hand-picked to make Locked Down at his Nashville studio. Perhaps you've heard the album's first single, "Revolution" (listen here), about which Rolling Stone says: "Over a chunky brass-laced groove, the good Doctor rages against the machine while banging out a deeply funky Farfisa solo." Now comes the first look at and listen to an excerpt from the album's title track, "Locked Down," in a new teaser video, shot by director Reid Long, that gives a look inside Auerbach's studio as he, Dr. John, and their band laid down the track. Watch the video below.

Once you've got a taste of "Locked Down," head over to the Brooklyn Academy of Music's website, bam.org, where the track is streaming in full. Starting next week, BAM is hosting a three-week residency titled Dr. John: Insides Out, March 29 through April 14. The centerpiece of the residency is a three-night run of concerts in which Auerbach will join Dr. John and a handpicked band to premiere new music from Locked Down at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, April 5–7. Insides Out begins March 29–31 with a tribute to Louis Armstrong and concludes April 12–15 with Funky But It’s Nu Awlins, a funk-infused night of New Orleans music, featuring key players from the Crescent City. The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos Quartet and its non-profit organization, Kronos Performing Arts Association. “It’s gratifying to know that Kronos’ legacy will be preserved in perpetuity alongside the manuscripts and other treasures of so many other influential musicians from the US and around the world," said KPAA Executive Director Janet Cowperthwaite. "We are perhaps even more excited to reflect upon all the musicians and scholars who will have access to these materials in years to come, informing their own work and carrying Kronos’ inspiration and influence into the future.” The Library also appointed Kronos founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture and inducted Kronos’ 1992 album Pieces of Africa into the National Recording Registry.
