Congratulations to all of the Nonesuch Records artists who were nominated for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, announced earlier today by The Recording Academy: Rhiannon Giddens, Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, Lianne La Havas, Punch Brothers, and Joshua Redman. Together, these artists' Nonesuch releases have garnered a total of eight nominations this year. The 58th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016, in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on CBS.

Rhiannon Giddens's solo debut album, Tomorrow Is My Turn, has made NPR Music's list of its 50 Favorite Albums of 2015. "The joy inherent in the [album] isn't just her impeccable taste in cover material," writes NPR's Katie Presley. "It's also the palpable delight Giddens takes in covering it ... Tomorrow Is My Turn runs on an engine of irrepressible enthusiasm and a degree of sheer talent that, when encountered at full strength, is, fittingly, downright giddy-making." It's also on the Sunday Times of London's list of the 100 Best Records of the Year. "Singer of the year, the leader of the Carolina Chocolate Drops turns in a tour de force on her solo debut," writes the Times' Clive Davis. 

Rolling Stone has published its list of the 50 Best Albums of 2015, and among them are two Nonesuch Records releases: The Arcs' debut album, Yours, Dreamily, which the magazine calls "a riveting extension of the Black Keys' progressive-blues aesthetic," and Tomorrow Is My Turn, the solo debut album from Rhiannon Giddens, whom Rolling Stone calls "a rare voice bound for glory."

Today is the day after Thanksgiving in the US and that means, among other things, Record Store Day Black Friday, offering unique recordings from some of your favorite artists, including The Arcs, who have released The Arcs vs. The Inventors Vol. I, a new limited-edition 10" six-song recording featuring Dr. John and David Hidalgo, and Rhiannon Giddens, who releases Factory Girl, a five-song vinyl 10" EP culled from the same T Bone Burnett–produced sessions that yielded here solo debut album, Tomorrow Is My Turn. There's more than a month to go before 2015 comes to a close, and already the UK music magazines have begun to weigh in on the year's best music. Uncut and Mojo have published their lists of the Best Albums of the Year, and included among them are a number of Nonesuch releases, all firsts of a sort: Olivia Chaney's debut album, Rhiannon Giddens's first solo record, and the debut from the newly minted quartet of The Bad Plus Joshua Redman.

Rhiannon Giddens could be seen on televisions across the United States over the weekend. She performed "Cry No More" on Shining a Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America, a two-hour event airing on A&E Networks and iHeartRadio stations Friday night, and "Waterboy" on PBS's Austin City Limits special of highlights from the Americana Honors & Awards show on Saturday night. Rhiannon Giddens has made a video performing Edith Piaf's beloved song "La Vie en Rose." "This is for Paris, and Beirut, and Kenya, and Charleston, and so many others; for countless innocent people devastated by terrorism—which is just a word for organized hatred and inhumanity," says Giddens. "We have to keep seeing the world in shades of rose—we have to keep hoping for peace and working for change and believing that with our art, our love, our knowledge, and most of all, our empathy and understanding for our fellow human beings, we can make a difference." Rhiannon Giddens kicks off the next leg of her tour at the Silver Creek Event Center in New Buffalo, Michigan, this Friday, followed by stops in Canada and throughout the US Northeast in the weeks ahead. In celebration of Black History Month in February 2016, Rhiannon Giddens will lead a concert with cellist Leyla McCalla and singer-songwriter Bhi Bhiman titled Swimming in Dark Waters: Other Voices of the American Experience. The concert will examine the history of protest, subversion, and cultural resistance from musicians of color throughout US history, from the original inhabitants to recent immigrants. Performances are currently scheduled for Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series in NYC, Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick, MD, and Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC, with more to be announced soon.

Rhiannon Giddens was recently a guest on NPR's Mountain Stage. Giddens performs several songs from her debut solo album, Tomorrow Is My Turn: "Don't Let It Trouble Your Mind," "She's Got You," "Waterboy," "O Love Is Teasin'," "Black Is the Color," and "Up Above My Head." "The broad mix of material from which Giddens draws inspiration plays a big part in defining her personality as a performer," says the show. "Her Mountain Stage set is no exception, as she weaves together traditional music with songs by trailblazers Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Dolly Parton." Hear it here.

Rhiannon Giddens will take part in "Shining a Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America" on Friday, November 20, at 8 PM ET/PT. The concert will be recorded at The Shrine Auditorium in LA on Wednesday, November 18. The two-hour special event will air across A+E Networks and iHeartRadio music stations across the US. Giddens will join artists including Zac Brown Band, Eric Church, Jamie Foxx, Tori Kelly, John Legend, Miguel, Pink, Jill Scott, Ed Sheeran, Sia, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, and Pharrell Williams for the event, including a once-in-a-lifetime series of duets, focused on creating reconciliation and positive change in local communities.

Recorded during the T Bone Burnett–produced sessions for Rhiannon Giddens's highly acclaimed solo debut, Tomorrow Is My Turn, her five-song vinyl EP Factory Girl is due on Black Friday Record Store Day, November 27, 2015; a digital version is due December 11. The EP includes songs written or made famous by musical heroes Ethel Waters and Sister Rosetta Tharp; a song co-written by Giddens; a traditional Gaelic mouth music tune; and the title track, a traditional Irish song for which she wrote additional lyrics. Giddens resumes her tour on November 6, with new international tour dates announced for early 2016, including several as part of Transatlantic Sessions.
